1er Mai May Day Holiday

Today in France we celebrate not just a day off work La Fête du Travail (Labor Day), but also La Fête du Muguet, when traditionally we give our loved ones a bouquet of Muguet/Lily of the Valley.
Here's a picture of the Muguet plant that my husband gave me today displayed in a pretty "tremblant" produced by the Grand Maison de la Haubaudiere, Quimper circa 1940.
Whatever you call this special day I hope you all enjoy your day of rest.

  1. In France article R. 644-3 of the Penal Code prohibits the sale of flowers on public land without a permit ( thanks to my friend Clair for that nugget of info !) however did you know that by tradition this is ignored for this one day only and anyone can sell 'muguet de bois' today without paying tax on the income or being registered for business. Todays price is 4.50 euro's. !!!

    Happy May Day :-)
